Lee Roy Selmon's life is a combination of football scholarships, family involvement and involvement in the community. First of all, he was brought up with Lucious and Jessie Selmon on a farm near Eufala within Oklahoma as the youngest of the nine children they had. In football, he played with three of his brothers for Oklahoma. Three brothers were All-America. They made the All-America team in 1973. Lee Roy and Lucious Jr. Dewey were the first-teamers for the entire year. Lee Roy won the Outland and Lombardi Awards as the nation's top lineman. During his three-year tenure as the Oklahoma's quarterback of choice and Sooners' starting quarterback, they went 32-1-1 and captured two national titles. In 1975, the National Football Foundation named him as a Scholar-Athlete three times time in the year 1975. Selmon holds a bachelor's degree in educational studies. Lee Roy dedicated ten volunteer time per week throughout the college. After graduation, he moved to Tampa and played nine seasons with the Buccaneers. He made the All-Pro 3 times. Then he started his professional career. In 1988, as an account liaison officer for First Florida Bank of Tampa, he worked with Special Olympics Easter Seals Baptist Church Ronald McDonald House United Negro College Fund South Florida Institute Black Life Hall of Fame Bowl Committee. It's no wonder that The Junior Chamber of Commerce designated Lee Roy as among the 10 most notable young men across the nation. While a student Lee Roy was 6-2 and weighs a little over 256 lbs. He captained his college team in 1975. In 1993, Roy joined at the University of South Florida's athletic department as the assistant director. He was elected to the College Football Hall of Fame through the GTE Academic All-America Hall of Fame of 1994 and the Pro Football Hall of Fame of 1995. The Selmons' parents Lucious and Mary Selmon Sr. were awarded the Distinguished American Award in 1989 from the Oklahoma City Chapter National Football Foundation. Henry Bellmon was the Oklahoma Governor who presented this award.
